Global Cinema: The Rise of Third World Cinema

This website offers a guide for students to the history of global cinema from 1945 to 2000.  Third World is used here as an acknowledgement of the historical meaning of the term in Frantz Fanon's writing, particularly in his pivotal text, Wretched of the Earth (1961).  Fanon posed the Third World as uniting in opposition to European colonialism and domination.  While the term Third World has been replaced by economics and world market centered terms, like Developing World, or Developing Nations, or the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China), the periodization of the rise of Third World cinema, culture and criticism is appropriate for the period 1945-1989.
